Embossing workshop

Today with FdA students with did a embossign workshop induction..

Embossing is the process of creating a three-dimensional image or design in paper and other materials.

It is typically accomplished with a combination of heat and pressure on the paper. This is achieved by using a metal die (female) usually made of copper or brass and a counter die (male) that fit together and squeeze the fibers of the substrate. This pressure and a combination of heat "irons" while raising the level of the image higher than the substrate to make it smooth. In printing this is accomplished on a letterpress. The most common machines are the Kluge Letterpress and the Heidelberg Letterpress. The term "impressing" enables one to distinguish an image lowered into the surface of a material, in distinction to an image raised out of the surface of a material.

we use linocut and cut out cardboard for the embossing and debossing process..

it's not a difficult process the only thing is that u have to be precise when you get ready your image, other wise some unexpected shape and texture will come out.

I'll definitely extend my workshop with some more practice and I'll thing something nice for the A-Z project

Hidden place Project

We have the unique opportunity of working on a live book design project entitled Hidden London:

a Notebook for Walker books, which may be printed and published and distributed in galleries and

trendy shops all over London.

we have to chose a secret place in london where not many tourist know about it.

I found this small cafe close to Angel tube station, it's been open for more then 21 years but maybe because there is not sign on the main street even people leaving in that area don't know this cafe. it's a situate on the second floor of a big building where also there is a gallery for art exhibition, events, drawing and painting workshops.

What I like of this place is:

• Amazing frames candles
• Sugar cube
• Painting and canvases on the wall
• A place with arts and event flayer selection
• People talking with low voice
• Soft music
• Plants
• Comfortable sofa
• Different size of table, sofa, chair
• Colours: sofa (scarlet, green with cream lines) chairs (scarlet, green. Light blue, cream, light brown)
• Wall (scarlet, orange, yellow)
• Texture all over the place
• Menu in a blackboard written by hand
• Light Blue Bookshelf with cookery books, English Dictionary, love story books,
• Games (Scrabble, cards, Domino)
• Two girls working there Rebecca and Yuri friendly, big smile

Why people should go there:

• A Bookshelf with books for customers reading
• No Internet connection to let people forget about technology for few hours and have a nice chat in a relaxing place
• The furniture really vintage, colourful, texturing
• No noisy around
• Home made fresh food roast chicken and grilled salmon both served with rice and salad, cakes

A-Z format

Today at university we put n the wall images took from newspaper, books, leaflet...

and what we analyze are the different format that a design can be done.

Ater that we had to try to change a format of a product..

Today i realized i need to ask my self more question about why something is been made in that way and any possible idea of an other way to do things rather then just like or not like something.

A-Z Project "Bitmap"

I found this beautiful pictures of two kids I could obtained a nice pop art effect...
First I extract the kids out of the background..then I desatureted and used the adjuastment threshold..
Now this is the time to change in bitmap image and choose halftone screen - round.
And from there I played with differents colours and layer effect...as well a lot of time get the right effect...

I tried to zoom in into the image so you could see the bitmap effect.

A-z Project "Iris Folding"

Today I experimented the Iris folding tecniques:

Iris folding is a beautiful paper craft technique in which one uses folded strips of colored paper to form a design. The artisan follows a pattern to lay the design. The “iris” in this case refers not to a flower, but to the unusually shaped space that remains in the middle of the pattern after the paper folds are in place.

Paper + Flower

During this summer I collected some flower found in my garden, parks and from other people's garden.:)

they could make a nice idea to write a special letter to a friend, but I'm sure folding it would be a problem.
